Meet Our Choirs

Lafayette Master Chorale

The Lafayette Master Chorale consists of approximately 55 singers from the greater Lafayette and surrounding area. Members come from all age groups and represent a variety of occupations. Membership in the group is gained through audition. Although many singers have had formal music training, some have not. All are bound together by a love of choral music.

The Lafayette Master Chorale rehearses weekly 7-9:30 p.m. Mondays at Lafayette Jefferson High School, 1801 S. 18th St., in Lafayette.

Singing is Unity

The Lafayette Master Chorale & Children’s Choir is committed to inclusion and treating each person with dignity and respect. Across race, ethnicity, creed, religion, age, gender, identity and experience, we embrace the qualities that make us each who we are knowing that, as in choral music, it is these very differences that blend together with synergy, creating art that transcends its origins.

Harmony is one of the hallmarks of choral music: many different voices joining together to create one unified piece of music. The different voice parts add layers and richness that would not be possible alone.

The Lafayette Master Chorale, the children's choir's parent organization, is dedicated to providing outreach to singers and audiences in the north-central region of Indiana. The organization's goal is to provide life-long musical training and performance experiences for singers of all ages throughout Tippecanoe and surrounding counties. To help achieve this goal, an educational component was officially added to the organization in June 1996 when the Tippecanoe Youth Chorus merged with BCS, Inc. to form the Bach Chorale Youth Chorus, a traveling performance choir. In June 1999, the Greater Lafayette Children's Choir, serving singers ages 8 to 11, formally merged with Bach Chorale Singers (now the Lafayette Master Chorale) as the Bach Chorale Children's Choir. In July 2016, the board approved changing the name to the Lafayette Children's Choir.

Currently, the Lafayette Children's Choir performs regularly throughout the greater Lafayette area.  It has approximately 70 members varying from children entering 2nd grade through high school.

All of our children’s choirs rehearse at Grace United Methodist Church (615 N. 22nd St., Lafayette) on Tuesday evenings.

Youth Chorus:  The most elite of our choirs, this ensemble consists of our most advanced singers in fifth grade and older. As our top ensemble, the singers in Youth Chorus must have a high level of commitment, as they are frequently called upon to sing at outreach concerts within our community. Such opportunities may include performances with the adult Chorale, touring and singing at important community events.

Concert Choir:  This choir is made up mostly of singers in second through fifth grades. These singers focus on producing a beautiful tone quality, reading music and singing harmony independently. They will sing challenging, quality musical literature chosen to delight both themselves and their audiences. They must have the maturity to conduct themselves in a professional manner during rehearsal and performance. They must also have high integrity with regard to commitment to their choir.
